With constant innovation and development in the Hydraulic Hose sector, more options are becoming available in fittings. Both 1-piece and 2-piece fittings have their place, but knowing which is best for you (especially if you’re new to hydraulics) can be confusing, but is important.
To simplify the selection and make it super easy for you, we’ve put together this simple guide covering the differences between 1-piece and 2-piece fittings and thoughts to help you decide which option is best for you.
1-piece fittings are the perfect solution if you’re new to the hydraulics hose industry or want simplicity and a foolproof option because they’re easy to choose and easy to use. This is because the ferrule is pre-crimped to the hosetail so there’s no risk of collar misalignment, and you’ll always have the correct ferrule as it’s permanently attached to the hosetail.
Fluidcor 1-piece fittings are a perfect match for both Yokohama and Polyhose hydraulic hoses. The superior quality finishing and coating ensures a longer service life. The wide range of fittings and thread types suit both 1SN/2SN and 4SH/R13/Isobaric non-Skive.
While 1-piece fittings may sound like the perfect all-round solution, 2-piece fittings have their benefits too! The ferrule used in 2-piece fittings varies with hose types. These fittings are available for 1SN, 2SN and multi-spiral hoses so there’s an extensive selection of hosetail options to create a custom solution for your individual needs.
2-piece fittings are also available in 316 stainless for longer service life, even in extreme marine and chemical applications.
But which is best for you?
The answer to this question is very dependent on a number of factors.
If you’re working with Yokohama, newer to hydraulics or want simplicity, we recommend using matched 1-piece fittings. There will be no risk of collar misalignment or the wrong ferrule. Also if you only use a small range of fittings 1-piece fittings will save you from stocking both ferrules and fittings.
1 or 2 piece fittings create an interesting debate in the industry. What it comes back to is personal preference. There are pros and cons for both options, but at BOA we recommend the 1-piece range due to its ease of assembly and zero risk factor. They’re also a perfect match for Yokohama and Polyhose and have a superior lifespan.
All in all, if you want a non-complex solution that’s easy to use, reliable and lasts, 1-piece fittings are your best solution! If you want a highly customised solution, and that’s built to last even in extreme conditions, 2-piece fittings are worth considering. Go with a solution that works for you!
At BOA we’re proud to bring you not only the “best of all brands”, but also to offer you choice. This includes non-skive 1-piece fitting options for 1SN, 2SN and multi-spiral high pressure hoses, 2-piece options for 1SN, 2SN and multi-spiral hoses, including 316 stainless option, and soon to offer non-skive multi-spiral 2-piece option.
